The short of it. Football is the one market where going offshore pays off most obviously. The sport takes so much money worldwide (the Asian books in particular price it for a living) that the odds are sharper and the margins thinner than anything a restricted local site will offer you. You also get markets your home bookmaker either buries or won't list at all: Asian handicaps, deep goal lines, corners, cards, obscure second divisions on a wet Tuesday. Better prices, more to bet on, higher limits. That's the whole pitch, and on football it genuinely holds up.
It's not magic, it's volume. A market with billions flowing through it gets priced tight, because any soft number gets bet into line within seconds. Local books, protected from competition, don't have to try as hard, so their football odds carry a fatter margin. Move to a sharp offshore book and you're paying maybe two or three percent to the house instead of seven or eight. Over a season of football bets, that gap is the entire difference between slowly bleeding and roughly breaking even.
If you've only ever bet 1X2 (home, draw, away), the Asian handicap feels strange for about a week and then obvious forever. It takes the draw out, splits the line into halves and quarters, and lets you back a favourite "minus one" or an underdog "plus a half" instead of guessing an exact result. Tighter prices, cleaner logic, half-win and half-loss outcomes that soften the variance. The Asian books built their name on it. Try it once with small money.
Big offshore books don't stop at the Premier League and the Champions League. Second and third tiers, South American cups, Asian domestic leagues, women's football, youth competitions. That breadth matters because value hides in the corners; the more obscure the match, the softer the price tends to be (the bookmaker can't watch every league as closely as it watches the marquee ones). If you actually know a smaller league, that's your edge, and offshore is where you get to use it.
Line-shop. If you hold more than one account, compare the football price across them before every bet; ten seconds, real money over time. Bet what you understand, not the accumulator the app pushes at you (those long-odds multiples are exactly where the house makes its living). And take the value when you see it rather than waiting for a "sure thing", because sure things don't exist and value does.
